Some involved using "Strength" to move a truck located south of Vermillion City find this pokemon hidding below it.
Others included catching a certain amount of Pokemon or talking to certain people. Most of these methods turned out to be myths and people were starting to believe this secret Pokemon was just an invention.
We're talking, of course, about Mew.
You may ask yourself: What's so great about this pink fuzzy little creature?
Well, aside from being extremely rare, Mew is the only Pokemon capable of learning any TM technique no matter what the type. It also levels up rather fast and almost rarely misses an attack or hits itself during a confusion state (this may just be me being totally crazy, but I feel like it's true).
Mew first showed it's face at official Pokemon events that Nintendo would held and give the winners of such event an update to their cartrige, which would add Mew to their collection.
Although it's possible to get Mew through Game Shark cheats, people tried to find a legitimate way to get this coveted creature. And they did!!
There are 2 different ways to get Mew in Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow. The call them "Mew Glitches" but I don't see why it would be considered a glitch since there's really nothing glitchy about these methods.
I only tried one of the glitches, since it's the one you could do from the get go without any over the top requirements, sorta. And this is the teleport glitch.
I'm not gonna go into detail about how this method works as I'm sure you'd be able to find it anywhere on the internet. I will just start of by saying it was a PAIN!!
You need to make your way up to Route 24 battling the trainers along the way, there will be a trainer hidden on the left side of this route but you need to avoid him for now. Make your way to Route 25 and avoid yet another trainer on there (a Youngester with a Slowpoke).
Here's the painful part. You have to catch an Abra to make use of it's teleport abillity. Sounds easy right? (again) Not really.
You can only get this sneaky little bastard on one of the routes (which i can't remember now) in the map. There is only a 4% chance of encountering this pokemon, so you'll be facing LOTS and LOTS of annoying little Pidgey, Rattata and the ocational Jigglypuff. My party at that point was really strong, so if encountered the damned Abra I would most likely kill it with one shot, so i had to try to paralize it with Pikachu. After a lot of battling I encountered my first Abra (YAY!).
Only to be extremely enraged immediatly.
Even when using Thunder Wave to paralize it, he will always use Teleport to run away. Even when throwing Pokeballs at him as soon as you saw it, it will still break free and Teleport away. Each time the bastard performed it's little trick, it took another 20 minutes to bump into another one.
I spent a good 3 hours of my life trying until I finally caught the damn guy.
Back to Route 24 it is, at this point you need to go up to the trainer on the left and as soon as he sees you, press start and use teleport to go to the Pokemon center in Cerulean city. The head back to Route 25, fight the guy with the slowpoke and then teleport back to the Pokemon Center. When you go up the bridge back to Route 24 your menu will come up, upon exiting, you will encounter your sweet price...
Awesome! Now, being a Lvl 7 Pokemon, I just made sure I didn't freaking kill it. So I used weak attack until I was able to capture Mew! (^_^)
As you can tell, I found the hardest part of this process to be capturing the damned Abra rather than catching Mew itself. After I was done, I put the freaking Abra in my box and never even glanced at it again.
Now with my party as strong as ever, it's time to head on...
