Foggy Memory Post - Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball SNES

This is the first of what I will call "Foggy Memory Posts", in which I will talk about games I remember playing but don't have much detail on.

Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball

I don't even remember how I got this game back in the day, I think I trade it with someone in exchange for a crummy Dragn Ball Z game I had bought and did not like at all.
Now I must admit, I am not a sports fan AT ALL, which means I don't play sports videogames that often either. But I recall this game being fun and having user-friendly controls.

Looking at some screen shots of this game now, the graphics are not that bad and seem cartoony enough to kad kept my interest back then.

I used to play this with my buddies and was pretty good at it too! I specificaly recall making a friend cry once because I beat him 30-01. Good days.

It seems it's rare to find games you can sit down and play with your friends numerous times (actually, it's hard enough finding friends to play with period), let alone for someone who doesn't enjoy sports games that much. So i'll be sure to give this game another play when I get my hands on a SNES haha.

Until next time!

Game Boy: Pokemon Yellow - Part 2: The Mew Glitch

In the glory days of Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, there were always rumors of a hidden Pokemon that nobody knew how to get. There were crazy methods that people swore worked in order to get this rare creature.

Some involved using "Strength" to move a truck located south of Vermillion City find this pokemon hidding below it.

Others included catching a certain amount of Pokemon or talking to certain people. Most of these methods turned out to be myths and people were starting to believe this secret Pokemon was just an invention.

We're talking, of course, about Mew.

You may ask yourself: What's so great about this pink fuzzy little creature?
Well, aside from being extremely rare, Mew is the only Pokemon capable of learning any TM technique no matter what the type. It also levels up rather fast and almost rarely misses an attack or hits itself during a confusion state (this may just be me being totally crazy, but I feel like it's true).

Mew first showed it's face at official Pokemon events that Nintendo would held and give the winners of such event an update to their cartrige, which would add Mew to their collection.

Although it's possible to get Mew through Game Shark cheats, people tried to find a legitimate way to get this coveted creature. And they did!!

There are 2 different ways to get Mew in Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow. The call them "Mew Glitches" but I don't see why it would be considered a glitch since there's really nothing glitchy about these methods.

I only tried one of the glitches, since it's the one you could do from the get go without any over the top requirements, sorta. And this is the teleport glitch.

I'm not gonna go into detail about how this method works as I'm sure you'd be able to find it anywhere on the internet. I will just start of by saying it was a PAIN!!

You need to make your way up to Route 24 battling the trainers along the way, there will be a trainer hidden on the left side of this route but you need to avoid him for now. Make your way to Route 25 and avoid yet another trainer on there (a Youngester with a Slowpoke).
Here's the painful part. You have to catch an Abra to make use of it's teleport abillity. Sounds easy right? (again) Not really.

You can only get this sneaky little bastard on one of the routes (which i can't remember now) in the map. There is only a 4% chance of encountering this pokemon, so you'll be facing LOTS and LOTS of annoying little Pidgey, Rattata and the ocational Jigglypuff. My party at that point was really strong, so if encountered the damned Abra I would most likely kill it with one shot, so i had to try to paralize it with Pikachu. After a lot of battling I encountered my first Abra (YAY!).

Only to be extremely enraged immediatly.
Even when using Thunder Wave to paralize it, he will always use Teleport to run away. Even when throwing Pokeballs at him as soon as you saw it, it will still break free and Teleport away. Each time the bastard performed it's little trick, it took another 20 minutes to bump into another one.
I spent a good 3 hours of my life trying until I finally caught the damn guy.

Back to Route 24 it is, at this point you need to go up to the trainer on the left and as soon as he sees you, press start and use teleport to go to the Pokemon center in Cerulean city. The head back to Route 25, fight the guy with the slowpoke and then teleport back to the Pokemon Center. When you go up the bridge back to Route 24 your menu will come up, upon exiting, you will encounter your sweet price...
Awesome! Now, being a Lvl 7 Pokemon, I just made sure I didn't freaking kill it. So I used weak attack until I was able to capture Mew! (^_^)

As you can tell, I found the hardest part of this process to be capturing the damned Abra rather than catching Mew itself. After I was done, I put the freaking Abra in my box and never even glanced at it again.

Now with my party as strong as ever, it's time to head on...

Game Boy: Pokemon Yellow - Part 1

It's no secret that the most successful Game Boy games in all it's incarnations are the Pokemon games. And if you wont admit it, you're just kidding yourself.

Pokemon Special Pikachu Edition was released in North America on October 19, 1999. It is a remake of it's Pokemon Red and Blue, which are pretty much the same games with a few Pokemon exclusive to each version.

If you don't know what the Pokemon games are about (then you've been living in a hole), they are set in the fictional Kanto region where you take the role of a young boy who is about to start his journey as a Pokemon trainer, which basically consists of traveling the region catching as many of these creatures as possible, while battling other trainers along the way and facing Gym leaders in different cities to quallify for the Pokemon league.

Sounds simple right? Not really. Some Pokemon can only be obtained by meeting certain requirements or are exclusive to other games, which means you can only obtain them by trading. The main goal for many is really just to have a complete Pokedex.

At the time of it's release, a lot of people saw this game as a marketing tactic for Nintendo to make more money, since it was just a revised version of the previous games with some minor differences to make it more similar with the anime. And with the release of Pokemon Silve for Game Boy Color on it's way, it seemed there was really no reason for this game to exist.

Still, it was a comercial sucess selling over 600,000 units in it's first week.

I have personally never been able to finish a Pokemon game before, as I've never been a huge RPG fan and found the idea of walking around a city pretty boring after a while. I could never get past Fuisha city mainly because I got sick of it by that point.

I've had this cartrige for years now and have finally decided to play and FINISH Pokemon Yellow in an attempt to get as many pokemon as possible by the time I'm done.

In the previous games I would usually go with Charmander as my starter Pokemon, mainly because he has a lot o advantages over those annoying little grass and bug pokemon you encountered in the beggining, plus he's cute. In this game however, I'm stuck with Pikachu, which is not really a bad thing since he is very useful for the second gym, plus he walks behind you all the time and you can talk to it whenever your're feeling lonely.

To be honest, I find a lot of the paths in this first stage of the game really, really annoying. With tons of blocked roads and a lot of going around, but I guess that's what takes away some of the dullness this could have if it was just a battling game with no digging around. This also works towards catching all those wild pokemon popping out every now and then. Which in the end can be very rewarding.

By the time I defeated the first gym leader I already felt like a champion. With a team of a Lvl 12 Pikachu, Lvl 9 Nidoran, and Lvl 9 Pigeotto, plus the some filler pokemon. I was pretty much having a blast trying to level up my pokemon and learning new moves. My intention is to find myself a party of various type of pokemon and stick with it til' the end.

Now, entering Cerulean City I have the task to find one of the key members of my team.

It's time for... The Mew glitch.

Til' next time!

Access to the past.

Hi all!

Thanks for visiting my blog and for embarking with me in this journey to visit our game ancestors.

My name is Danny, I'm about to turn 23 and live in Tijuana, Mexico.

I've been a gamer since i was 5 and got my very first home console. An Atari 2600.

I vaguely remember what games I would play in it, all i know is it was a lot of fun. I then moved on to better things: Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Game Boy, Super Nintendo (SNES), Nintendo 64 (N64), Playstation (PSX), Dreamcast, Playstation 2 and so on.

I can proudly say I still own most of my original consoles (not the Atari of course). My oldest system is the N64 which is around 12 years old!

For the past few years, I've drifted of a little bit from gaming, having been playing Next Gen consoles as more of a casual player. My range became very limited when it came to the kind of games I enjoy. Most of them being Rhythm based games like Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania IIDX and such.

But lately, I've been struck with a huge nostalgia for older games, video channels like Rinrygamegame on YouTube only sparked that feeling even more. I wouldn't go as far as the Atari, but definitely the NES, GB, SNES and N64. Although I have means to play Game Boy and N64 games, I don't own that many.

So I decided to embark on this journey to go back in time to the 8-bit era (and beyond) and play games I never got a chance to play when they were originally released, or revisit some of my favorites from the past, and document my experience with each on this blog.

I will randomly play a game from each console and post a mini review/experiences on here as part of a gaming journal!

So let's begin!
